Kali Puja

Kali_Puja

Kal means Darkness, and Kali takes away all Darkness. That is why She is dark. Kal means Time, and Kali is beyond all time. By worshiping Kali we give up our darkness, illuminate our light, and become One with She who is Beyond Time.  She cuts down all impurities, consumes all iniquities, purifies Her devotees with the sincerity of Her Love.

While the main Kali Puja is held on the Diwali new moon (Dipanwita), there are four major types of Kali Puja celebrated annually in the Bengali calendar, alongside various forms of the goddess worshipped in Tantric traditions. The four key observations are Dipanwita (Diwali), Ratanti, Phalaharini, and Kaushiki Amavasya.

  • Phalaharini Kali Puja: Held on the new moon of Jyeshtha month, notably when Ramakrishna worshipped Sarada Devi as Shodashi. Saturday, May 16, 2026
  • Dipanwita Kali Puja: The main, widely celebrated puja occurring on the new moon of Kartik month (Diwali). Sunday, November 8, 2026
  • Ratanti Kali Puja: Celebrated on Magha Krishna Chaturdashi. Saturday, February 6, 2027
  • Kaushiki Amavasya Kali Puja: Held in Bhadra month, considered the day Goddess Tara appeared in Tarapith. Sunday, November 8, 2026
  • Kali Puja 2026 will be celebrated on Sunday, November 8, 2026. The puja is observed on the night of the new moon (Amavasya Tithi) in the Hindu month of Kartik.

The auspicious time for the puja is usually midnight, coinciding with Diwali festivities.
